Resumen
Se plantea una orientación metodológica para abordar el estudio de los objetos visuales desde una base semiótica, particularmente en lo que se refiere a la percepción de la luz a partir de su distribución espectral (que produce la sensación de color) y su distribución espacial (que produce la sensación de cesía: transparencia, traslucencia, opacidad, reflectividad, etc.). Luego de establecer una orientación epistemológica, formular algunas definiciones y trazar un panorama de algunos antecedentes en el estudio del color y la apariencia producida por la distribución de la luz en el espacio, se propone que la semiótica puede funcionar como un marco teórico adecuado para organizar y englobar los distintos campos desde donde tradicionalmente se ha abordado el estudio de estos aspectos: física, química, fisología, neurofisiología, psicología de la percepción, psicofísica.
